Method of administration and dosage The usual prescribed dosage of Collargol for adults is 1-2 drops of a 1–3% solution, which is instilled conjunctivally. It is necessary to clean the conjunctiva from secretions beforehand. For children, the drug is administered 1 drop using a 1.5–2% solution. The frequency of use is 2-4 times per day. The agent is also used for diagnosing the patency of the lacrimal duct in dacryocystitis. In this case, a Collargol test is performed, when a 2% solution is introduced into the conjunctival sac, which should enter the nasolacrimal ducts after a short time. In case of good patency of the ducts, when pressing on the lacrimal sac zone, the solution is released from the eye along with the tear. If the preparation is delayed in the conjunctival sac for 5 minutes or more, the duct function is considered impaired.
