Schizophrenia in adults: the recommended starting dose of olanzapine is 10 mg once a day. Manic episodes: the recommended starting dose of olanzapine for adults in monotherapy is 15 mg/day or 10 mg/day as part of combination therapy. Maintenance therapy for bipolar disorder: for adults, the recommended starting dose of olanzapine is 10 mg once a day. Patients receiving olanzapine for the treatment of mania should first continue maintenance therapy for bipolar disorder at the same dose. For patients who have developed new manic, depressive, or mixed episodes, treatment with olanzapine should be continued (adjusting the dose if necessary) together with maintenance therapy for the treatment of mood disorder symptoms, if there is a clinical need. In the treatment of schizophrenia, manic episodes, and for the prevention of recurrence of bipolar disorders, the daily dose is determined based on clinical status in the range of 5 to 20 mg/day. Increasing the usual daily dose above the recommended starting dose is recommended only after an appropriate clinical examination and should be carried out at intervals of at least 24 hours.
